Wow, I have been using tumblr for way too long because I totally forgot how to make a proper picspam! Anyways, here is a PRIMER POST for SyFy's show Haven and my otp, Nathan/Audrey.

MEET HAVEN
A small town in Maine that is plagued by what the show has ridiculously called "The Troubles" and they say it every episode in their most ~serious pants~ faces. I laugh. The show follows two partners (BUDDYCOPS!!!) on their JOURNEY OF LOVE quest to save the town from people who are randomly manifesting supernatural abilities, sometimes even without their knowledge of control.

It is very typical of your average small town with gossipping locals who know everyone's business and their disdain for 'summer folk'. Mostly the best thing about it is that the weather is just mild enough that the main characters always wear cute jackets and button down shirts while keeping one hand in their pockets and the other on their gun. (I love seeing Audrey shift from uptight FBI outfits to more casual clothes as the series progresses)

MEET NATHAN
He is a local cop who squints when he talks and leaves out half his words because why waste time talking when two grunts will work just as good? He has Idiopathic Neuropathy, meaning he's lost all sensation and can't feel temperature or pain. He was not born with this, it just ~happened~ when the Troubles first came to town. BUT! He feels Audrey, a fact so astounding, it which deserves it's own paragraph later. (HINT: IT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE IN LOVE)

Anyways, he will bring you flowers and coffee, remembering how you take it exactly and will come save you in the middle of the night when you call him and this show really likes to tie him up for some reason but I'm not complaining.

He's skinny and LEAN and extremely tall so he looks STRETCHED out, but in a good way and if you like height differences in your couples, OH MAN, have you hit the jackpot! (My friend described him as just having escaped Azkaban six months ago and he's still recovering because DAMN, his cheekbones are just THERE, y'know?) His most common look is that of the STARVED PUPPY and who can resist that?

He doesn't smile much and his jokes are very straight-faced and sarcastic. If you poke your nose where it doesn't belong, he'll bring up that embarrassing fact he knows about you to warn you off. He's quietly stoic, but not in a gruff way. If you peel back the layers, he's actually super sensitive. He's protective as HELL to the point where he sometimes has to be stopped taking personal revenge against people who hurt the ones he cares about.

He is always staring at Audrey and it is SUPER ADORABLE. He isn't much in the way of more than two word answers or sharing his emotions (not feeling anything has closed him off) but Audrey still somehow manages to get him to open up, so he ends up telling her all of his secrets. For those who like that sort of thing: yes, he's ~WOUNDED~ and has a ~MYSTERIOUS TORTURED PAST~. So when he's hurt you just want to HUG HIM TIGHT and never let go!

BUT WAIT! THERE IS MORE! I haven't even gotten to the best part yet: HE LOVES BABIES.

Like, to an insane degree. He ZEROES in on them like a magnet. Episode 5 is basically just a love letter between Nathan and babies!

The only other time he smiles this much is around Audrey and even then, he smiled more in these caps then in all four previous episodes COMBINED.

He holds or plays with at least THREE. Even after they discover the babies are the cause of the deaths. Here he is cooing and swaying the ~poisonous~ baby that not two minutes ago almost killed Duke like it's no big deal. TOTAL SOFTIE.

MEET AUDREY
She is an FBI agent 'on loan' to the Haven PD department (but she's going to stay) and she doesn't have many friends because she's always been such a workaholic. She enjoys and is good at her job (and she takes a weird delight in the 'strange cases' so a town afflicted with The Troubles is perfect for her) But she also really liked HELPING people.

She is HORRIBLE at small talk with strangers and remembering people's names. She won't remember how you take your coffee, but she's got the facts of the case memorized. She is cute and bubbly and has an infectious smile. She always speaks her mind, even if that means telling the Police Chief to be nicer to his son or talking about her partner's sex life.

She's ruthlessly curious to the point of being nosy and super smart when it comes to creating new solutions to deal with supernatural messes (and manages to stay calm the whole time the town is falling down around her)! She is just starting to understand and care for Nathan and I don't think she's had her "A HA!" moment yet. But that's okay, because Nathan has and he's a patient dude.

AUDREY/NATHAN = OTP!

So they meet when he SAVES HER LIFE from her car falling off a cliff and then she SAVES HIS LIFE right back from a truck in a fog and they keep up this pattern for the rest of the show.

We get the sense that Audrey is ~special~ because of something a shape-shifter/chameleon said and in the beginning and she is oddly talented at dealing with things that would have most normal people freaking out. Nathan jokes that maybe she'll fix him, HAVING NO IDEA HOW ACCURATE THAT STATEMENT IS.

So they work together and joke together, laughing at Audrey's (in)ability to fit into small town police work or look like a local. Wishing for the day when all they'll have to solve is a regular old assault instead of people who can affect the weather ect. He buys her silly plaid clothes for a joke, and she wears them just to see him smile! Oh, did I mention they had to PRETEND TO BE PARENTS TO A KID?!

He's a bit of a gentleman, but in a subtle way. He knows she can protect herself and others, so it's small polite things like holding up the police tape to let her walk under or giving her a coffee and even pulling out her chair when they go to dinner. They are basically each other's only friends in the town!!! One thing I really like is how she won't let him stew in his misery. She doesn't want him to wallow in melancholy so she teases him when he says that a recent case reminds him of his own troubles and instead of getting into a serious conversation about his I.N., her response is "What? That you have horrible game with women?" LOL. Classic Parker.

MAJOR SPOILERS PAST THIS POINT. If you want to watch and discover the show for yourself, do not scroll down further.

So I briefly mentioned before that he FEELS Audrey's touch when he can't feel anyone else. (OMG, they show it in the most heartwarming way and if this does not give you ALL THE FEELINGS -- well, do not tell me because I might want to hit you a little.)

She gives him a consoling kiss on the cheek after his new girlfriend leaves and at first he's indifferent but then he CLOSES HIS EYES because he FEELS her and his hand involuntarily raises to his cheek while he's lost in WONDER.

He starts breathing funny and smiles and then tries to quickly PULL HIMSELF TOGETHER because he has to drive her home but his world has basically been flipped upside down by her.

LOOK AT ALL THE EMOTIONS FLITTING ACROSS HIS FACE! He's surprised and confused and HOPEFUL and then he just STARES at her, like she's MAGIC.

In the next episode, SHE IS MAYBE DEAD? Nathan finds this out because he didn't feel her hands when she untied him. So he takes her aside, asks "Do you trust me" and takes her hands in a very serious manner, rubbing them with his own. He's trying to feel her but he can't.

Then he's desperate. He HAS to know FOR SURE. He can't shoot Audrey without being positive even though a part of him ALREADY KNOWS. So he kisses her in a final plea to feel something, for this all to be a lie. When it's not, he PUSHES her away and grabs his gun.

Audrey: Are you okay?
Nathan: No. I'm not.

HE IS NOT OKAY. AUDREY IS GONE. THIS IS NOT HER. It breaks my heart because I think that's when he KNOWS that he cares for her, right when she's been snatched from him. So of course he has to shoot the THING that killed her and he has the most INTENSE look on his face. He's lost her and there's so much hate and sadness and fury at this Thing that is wearing Audrey's face.

Then the Thing confesses that Audrey is NOT DEAD (yay) and he starts yelling and running and is FRANTIC when he finds her and he's calling her name and holding her hand and he doesn't take his eyes off of her.

Then he kinda just rocks, head down, like he's praying for her to live and when she opens her eyes he just COLLAPSES against her, kissing her hand and resting his forehead against her skin. HE IS SO RELIEVED. Also, he's so obvious in his relief that his ~nemesis~ notices his feelings for Parker and has his own moment of "Shit, I didn't know he was IN LOVE with her. Maybe I should back off the harmless flirting?"

Then they talk about their awful middle names and SMILE and joke some more like she didn't almost just die and OMG, I WANT THE NEXT EPISODE NOW NOW NOW!

To recap: Nathan/Audrey = LOVE. You should watch the whole show, but if you're picky, you only have to see episode 5, 8 and 9 for the major adorable moments. (Also, you should write me fic.)
