I considered using a made up animal, but that would include DESCRIBING it and it's antlers/strength so the reader would understand why it could batter down wooden doors and it just worked better to use an animal that people could google if they didn't know it. Hee, Richard can still be quite a forest guide when he wants.
Oh man, I almost wrote that one without the kiss! Then the fluff-centre in my brain spazzed out and I knew that I couldn't be that cruel. Richard may think he's darker, he may self-consciously doubt Kahlan's love (he has probably made some hard decisions that he regrets now and have caused him to hate himself a bit) but I always believe that her love is unwavering. Hence, a kiss was needed.
